The Sin Exposed
Joshua 7 serves as a sobering reminder that disobedience, even by one, can bring defeat to many. The hidden sin of Achan led to Israel’s loss at Ai, but God’s exposure and judgment restored His presence among them.
The exposure of hidden covenant violation illustrates Moses’ warning that sin will not remain safely concealed. Achan’s exposure supplies a vivid later illustration of the principle, but Numbers 32:23 was a general warning to the eastern tribes rather than a prediction of Joshua 7.
Joshua 22 explicitly recalls Achan’s trespass as a warning that one household’s covenant breach can bring consequences on the wider congregation, interpreting the earlier Joshua 7 crisis from within the book itself.
