Jesus, Moses, and God’s House
Hebrews asks its holy brothers and sisters to consider Jesus as apostle and high priest. Moses is not belittled; Numbers describes him as faithful in all God’s house, and Hebrews repeats that commendation. The distinction is that Moses serves within the house, while Christ is Son over the house and worthy of greater glory, as the builder has greater honor than the house built. The “house” becomes a living image for God’s people. The readers belong to that house as they hold fast their confidence and hope. The comparison honors Moses while locating him within a larger reality governed by the Son.
