Cornelius Seeks God and Receives a Vision
Acts 10:1–8 centers on cornelius seeks god and receives a vision. Cornelius, a Roman centurion in Caesarea, is described as devout, God-fearing, generous, and prayerful. An angel tells him his prayers and alms have come up as a memorial before God and instructs him to send to Joppa for Simon Peter.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Acts prepares the Gentile breakthrough from both sides: God is already at work in Cornelius’s household while simultaneously preparing Peter. The language of prayer, alms, memorial, and fear of God places this Roman officer in a Jewish religious orbit without making him a circumcised Jew.
