Peace upon Israel
The psalm trusts that oppressive rule will not permanently define the inheritance of the righteous and asks God to do good to the upright. Those who turn aside are warned of judgment, while Israel is blessed with peace. Christ’s final righteous reign can be taught as a canonical trajectory rather than as a direct quotation.
The closing blessing “peace … upon Israel” resonates with the Psalms’ blessing “peace upon Israel,” though Galatians adds mercy and the debated phrase “the Israel of God.” The verbal resemblance is real even while that debated phrase remains unresolved.
