Behold, I Stand at the Door and Knock
Revelation 3:14–22 confronts Laodicea’s self-satisfied lukewarmness through Christ, the faithful and true Witness and the beginning of God’s creation. The church that says it is rich is told that it is spiritually poor, blind, and naked. Yet the rebuke is an act of love: Christ calls for repentance, fellowship, and overcoming, promising a share in His throne.
Revelation 3:20 strongly alludes to Song 5:2: the beloved stands outside, knocks at the door, speaks, and asks that the door be opened; in Revelation the speaker is Jesus.
