Jesus and Pilate: Kingdom, Truth, and the Rejected King
Leaders bring Jesus to Pilate while avoiding ritual defilement before Passover, creating one of John’s sharpest ironies. Pilate asks whether Jesus is King of the Jews. Jesus says his kingdom is not “from” this world—its source and methods are not produced by the present rebellious order—then says he came to bear witness to the truth. Pilate responds, “What is truth?” yet repeatedly finds no fault. The crowd chooses Barabbas, and political calculation begins to expose how the true king will be rejected.
