One in Christ and Heirs of the Promise

Faith in Christ brings believers into the status of God’s children, and baptism is described as putting on Christ like a garment. Paul then announces a new covenantal unity: Jew and Greek, slave and free, male and female do not determine standing “in Christ Jesus.” The distinctions are not denied as created or social realities; the point is shared identity and inheritance in Christ. Those who belong to Christ are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to promise.
