Brotherly Love, Hospitality, Marriage, and Contentment
Hebrews ends with concrete practices shaped by its theology. Brotherly love must continue; strangers are to be welcomed; prisoners and the mistreated are to be remembered as fellow embodied people. Marriage is to be honored and sexual unfaithfulness judged. The community must reject the love of money and learn contentment because God has promised never to abandon his people. That promise leads into Psalm 118:6: because the Lord is helper, human threats need not rule the believer’s imagination. Heavenly hope is meant to reshape ordinary relationships and material anxieties.
