Witness to the Ends of the Earth and the Ascension
Acts 1:6–11 centers on witness to the ends of the earth and the ascension. The disciples ask about restoring the kingdom to Israel. Jesus does not ridicule the kingdom hope; he redirects them away from calculating times and toward Spirit-empowered witness from Jerusalem through Judea and Samaria to the earth’s farthest horizon, then ascends as they watch.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. The 'ends of the earth' language strongly recalls Isaiah’s servant mission, while cloud/heaven imagery belongs to the Bible’s royal and divine-presence vocabulary and converges with Daniel 7. The angels’ promise of Jesus’ return prevents the ascension from becoming mere departure: enthronement and future return frame the mission.
