Love without Shame and the Final Adjuration
The woman wishes she could kiss her beloved publicly without social contempt, as one might show affection to a brother. She again imagines bringing him to her mother’s house, offers spiced wine and pomegranate juice, returns to the embrace formula, and repeats the adjuration not to awaken love before it pleases.
The point of the “brother” wish is social freedom, not incest: she longs for a form of public affection that would not be shamed. The mother’s house, embrace, wine, fruit, and refrain gather several earlier motifs into one final cycle.
