How Beautiful Are Thy Feet
A second extended body-description begins at the feet and moves upward: thighs like crafted jewels, navel like a bowl, belly like wheat ringed with lilies, breasts like twin gazelles, neck like ivory, eyes like Heshbon pools, nose like a Lebanon tower, head like Carmel, hair like royal purple.
The geography is part of the beauty language. Heshbon, Lebanon, Damascus, and Carmel are recruited as images of scale, symmetry, elevation, fertility, color, or splendor. The poem creates a map on the body.
