The Image, Firstborn, Creator, Head, and Reconciler
This paragraph places Christ at the center of creation and new creation. He is the image of the invisible God and the firstborn of all creation; all things—visible and invisible, including thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers—were created by him and for him. He is before all things, all things hold together in him, and he is the head of the church. As firstborn from the dead, he also stands first in the new creation. God’s fullness dwells in him, and reconciliation comes through the blood of his cross.
Where this fits in the story: Genesis opens with creation and humanity made in God’s image; Colossians identifies Christ as the true image and Creator through whom the whole created order exists. Resurrection then makes him the beginning of restored creation. The passage converges with John 1, Hebrews 1, and Revelation’s language about Christ as firstborn from the dead.
