Rain Promised in the Third Year
In 1 Kings 18:1–19, the narrative focuses on elijah confronts ahab. This belongs to the Elijah cycle. Drought, provision, restored life, Carmel, rain, flight, Horeb, and prophetic succession reveal the LORD’s authority over life, weather, worship, kings, and prophets while Israel is being called away from Baal and back to covenant loyalty.
James’s Elijah example includes both drought and renewed rain; 1 Kings 18 supplies the return phase, where YHWH promises rain and Elijah persists in prayer until the storm appears. The later apostolic text treats the narrative as a model of effective prayer.
