Paul’s Hebrew Defense: Calling, Conversion, and Gentile Mission
Acts 22:1–21 centers on paul’s hebrew defense: calling, conversion, and gentile mission. Standing on the temple stairs, Paul addresses the crowd in Hebrew/Aramaic, recounts his Jewish upbringing, zeal, persecution of 'this Way,' Damascus encounter with Jesus, Ananias’s role, baptism, and a later temple vision in which the Lord sends him far away to the Gentiles.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. The repeated conversion/call story centers the risen Jesus as Lord who turns a persecutor into a witness. Paul’s Jewish identity and Gentile commission are held together rather than treated as mutually exclusive.
