The Song of Moses: The Faithful Rock and a Crooked Generation
Deuteronomy 32:1–18 is the movement “The Song of Moses: The Faithful Rock and a Crooked Generation.” Read it inside Moses’ final covenant instruction to Israel on the eastern side of the Jordan as the people prepare for life in the land. The section opens with: “Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.” It closes with: “Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.”
Within the book’s larger story, this section advances several important biblical threads. The Divine Name and Character: The Song repeatedly names God “the Rock,” contrasting His perfect faithfulness with Israel’s corruption.
