The Living Word That Exposes the Heart

The warning about hearing God’s voice reaches a sharp conclusion: the word of God is living, active, penetrating, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. No creature is hidden from God’s sight; all are exposed before the one to whom an account must be given. In context, this is not mainly a detached description of the Bible’s inspirational power. It is the climax of the “Today, hear his voice” warning. God’s speech searches the hearer and exposes whether the response is trusting obedience or hardened unbelief.
