Stephen Sees the Son of Man and Forgives His Killers

Acts 7:54–60 centers on stephen sees the son of man and forgives his killers. The council erupts in fury, but Stephen, full of the Spirit, sees God’s glory and Jesus standing at God’s right hand as the Son of Man. Dragged outside and stoned, he calls on Lord Jesus to receive his spirit and asks that the sin not be held against his killers. Saul watches the garments.

The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Stephen’s death deliberately mirrors Jesus in Luke: hostile hearing, heavenward trust, entrusting the spirit, and forgiveness. Psalm 110/Daniel 7 royal-Son-of-Man imagery also converges in the vision of Jesus at God’s right hand.
