Meddling, Quarrels, and the Fuel of Gossip
Grabbing someone else’s quarrel is compared with seizing a dog by the ears. Reckless harm cannot be excused as a joke, and gossip functions like fuel: when the whisperer is removed, the fire of contention can finally die down.
Proverbs compares gossip and contentious speech to fuel that keeps a fire burning; James likewise compares the tongue to a small fire that can ignite a great matter.
