Incline Thine Ear to the Words of the Wise
A new collection announces itself by asking the hearer to incline the ear, apply the heart, keep these sayings within, and have them ready on the lips. Its stated goal is theological and practical: confidence in the LORD and the ability to return reliable words to those who sent the learner.
Proverbs introduces “the words of the wise” to be heard, internalized, and spoken faithfully; Ecclesiastes describes the wise as teaching knowledge and their words as goads and fastened nails.
