Folly, Deep Words, and the Wounds of Gossip
Isolation can become a way of resisting sound wisdom, and fools often prefer broadcasting their own heart to understanding. Speech can be deep water or a flowing brook of wisdom, but foolish quarrels and gossip penetrate deeply enough to wound the inner person.
Leviticus 19 forbids going about as a talebearer among God’s people, placing destructive speech inside the holiness ethic. Proverbs repeatedly describes gossip and quarrelsome words as causing deep wounds and separating close relationships, developing the Torah command into wisdom about the social damage such speech produces.
