Division and Signs at Iconium
Acts 14:1–7 centers on division and signs at iconium. At Iconium Paul and Barnabas speak in the synagogue and a large number of Jews and Greeks believe. Opposition polarizes the city, but the missionaries stay and speak boldly while the Lord bears witness by signs. When a plot forms to mistreat and stone them, they flee to Lystra and Derbe and keep preaching.
The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Acts presents signs as the Lord’s testimony to the word of grace, not as entertainment or personal branding. Mixed response—faith, division, hostility—recurs throughout the mission, showing that success cannot be measured simply by absence of opposition.
