Do Not Lust after Her Beauty
Adultery is described through increasingly forceful images: fire held to the chest, hot coals underfoot, theft driven by hunger, and a jealous husband who cannot be bought off. The section emphasizes that sexual sin can carry consequences no payment can simply erase.
Proverbs warns against lusting after another woman’s beauty and shows adultery as self-destructive; Jesus intensifies the command against adultery by addressing lust in the heart.
