Masters under the Master in Heaven
The household instructions turn directly to masters: they must give their servants what is just and equal, knowing that they themselves have a Master in heaven. Earthly authority is therefore neither absolute nor self-justifying; it is exercised under divine judgment.
Where this fits in the story: Scripture repeatedly judges rulers, masters, and judges by God’s own justice. Colossians applies that logic inside the household and places the person with social power under the same Lord who receives the service of the bondservant.
