Faith, Love, Hope, and a Gospel with Power
Paul’s thanksgiving remembers three active realities: work produced by faith, labor produced by love, and patient endurance produced by hope in Jesus Christ. Their election is not treated as an abstract puzzle; Paul points to the way the gospel arrived—in word, power, the Holy Ghost, deep assurance, and a life they had watched up close.
Where this fits in the story: faith, love, and hope return in 5:8 as spiritual armor and later appear together elsewhere in Paul’s letters. Scripture repeatedly joins God’s calling with transformed allegiance and Spirit-enabled life. The same Spirit who empowers witness in Acts is already visible here in the founding of this church.
