The Day Burns—and the Sun of Righteousness Rises
The same coming day has opposite effects. For the proud and wicked it burns like an oven; for those who fear God’s name, “the Sun of righteousness” rises with healing in its wings. The faithful go out with the exuberance of calves released from a stall while evil is finally brought low.
Where this fits in the story: the Day of the LORD runs through the prophets as both judgment and rescue. Malachi’s fire continues the refining/judging imagery of chapter 3, while sunrise becomes a vivid picture of public vindication after a long moral night.
