Constellations, Rain, Lions, and Ravens
Job 38:31–41 — “Constellations, Rain, Lions, and Ravens.”
WHAT IS HAPPENING The LORD finally speaks—but does not reveal the heavenly wager or give Job a tidy causal explanation. Instead, God questions Job about earth, sea, dawn, death, weather, stars, and animals, widening the frame from “Why did this happen to me?” to “How much of reality can a human actually govern or comprehend?”
THIS MOVEMENT The section’s own focus is “Constellations, Rain, Lions, and Ravens.” It begins, “Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?” and closes, “Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of meat.”.
