Two Full Years — Pharaoh Dreams and the Forgotten Prisoner Is Remembered
Two full years after the cupbearer forgets Joseph, Pharaoh dreams of seven fat cows consumed by seven lean cows and seven full ears swallowed by seven thin ears. Egypt’s magicians and wise men cannot supply the answer. Only then does the cupbearer remember Joseph and recount how his earlier interpretation came true. Joseph is hurried out of the dungeon, changes his appearance, and stands before Pharaoh. Yet when Pharaoh credits Joseph with the ability to interpret, Joseph immediately answers, “It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” The reversal therefore begins with divine revelation, not Joseph’s self-promotion. Genesis 40’s forgotten prison encounter becomes the bridge into Pharaoh’s court, and Acts 7 later summarizes this rise by saying that God gave Joseph favor and wisdom before Pharaoh.
