Psalms 97:2–5
Psalm 97 depicts the LORD’s kingship in cosmic theophany: cloud, fire, lightning, trembling earth, and heavens declaring His righteousness. The imagery contributes to the Bible’s broader portrayal of divine appearing and judgment. Christian eschatology can draw on that field of imagery without claiming a direct New Testament quotation from every line.
Psalm 97 and Nahum share a wider biblical theophany vocabulary in which cloud, fire, darkness, and melting mountains accompany the LORD’s appearing and rule. The imagery is strongly canonical, while direct literary dependence between the two passages remains less certain.
