God Trains the King for Victory and Subdues the Nations
The psalm now celebrates God as the one who equips the king for battle, makes his feet secure, trains his hands, and gives victory over hostile peoples. The royal scope expands beyond a private rescue into the public success of God’s anointed ruler. Habakkuk 3:19 later echoes the hinds-feet language.
For Christian interpretation, this contributes to the larger Davidic-king trajectory, but the martial details should not be converted one-for-one into predictions about Jesus. The canonical movement is from God sustaining David’s kingship toward the greater Son of David, with important differences between David’s warfare and Christ’s kingdom.
