Consider Your Ways: Build the House
The second “consider your ways” leads to action: go up, bring wood, and build the house. Haggai then explains the agricultural crisis in covenant terms. The heavens withhold dew, the earth withholds produce, and the LORD says he has called for drought because his house lies waste while everyone runs to his own house.
Where this fits in the story: Deuteronomy 28:22–24, 38–40 and Leviticus 26:18–20 describe the same covenant world—blight, failed crops, and an unyielding land when the covenant people refuse the LORD. Haggai is not inventing a prosperity formula; he is applying Israel’s covenant Scriptures to the returned community.
