David’s Faith
Start here: David, the youngest son of Jesse, was sent by his father to deliver food to his brothers at the battlefield. When he heard Goliath’s taunts, he was indignant that anyone would defy the armies of the living God. While others trembled, David declared his faith that the Lord who had delivered him from the paw of the lion and the bear would deliver him from the hand of the Philistine. Saul doubted but eventually allowed David to face Goliath, offering him armor which David declined, choosing instead to trust in the Lord with the tools he knew.
Canonical window: David’s anointing begins the rise of the chosen shepherd-king while Saul declines. The Spirit, royal election, representative deliverance, covenant loyalty, jealousy, persecution, and God’s preservation of his anointed servant become major canonical trajectories. The connection cards below show the specific Scripture links and how strongly each one is supported. This overview does not turn every similarity into a prophecy or type.
