The King’s Testimony and the Great Tree Dream
Daniel 4 is framed as a royal testimony addressed to “all people, nations, and languages.” Nebuchadnezzar himself narrates how the Most High humbled him. The chapter’s opening praise therefore tells the reader where the story is going before the crisis unfolds.
The dream centers on an enormous tree visible to the ends of the earth. Its fruit feeds all, animals shelter under it, and birds live in its branches. Then a heavenly “watcher and an holy one” orders the tree cut down while its stump remains bound in the earth. The imagery presents royal power as genuinely life-giving to subjects yet entirely dependent on heaven’s permission.
