Two Blind Men Cry Out to the Son of David
Matthew 20 keeps overturning normal rankings. The vineyard owner is generous beyond what late workers could demand; Jesus predicts again that he will be killed and raised; and when the disciples compete for the best seats, he says greatness in his kingdom looks like service. Then he interprets his own mission: the Son of Man came to serve and to give his life a ransom for many.
Where this fits in the story: messianic restoration includes opened eyes, and “Son of David” brings royal identity to the foreground just before the royal entry into Jerusalem.
Where Scripture takes it next: Matthew 21 opens with Jesus entering Zion as the promised king.
Evidence boundary: Synoptic accounts differ in details such as one/two blind men and naming Bartimaeus. Harmonization is possible, but the differences should be acknowledged rather than hidden.
What this miracle reveals: The Jericho accounts agree on blind beggars crying to the Son of David and receiving sight, but they do not narrate every detail identically. Matthew has two men; Mark names one, Bartimaeus; Luke focuses on one. Luke says Jesus was approaching Jericho while Matthew and Mark say he was leaving. Harmonizations exist, but the Gospels themselves do not tell us which reconstruction to adopt.
Blind eyes opening continues Isaiah's restoration-sign pattern, while the men's repeated 'Son of David' address makes the healing explicitly messianic within Matthew.
Two blind men repeatedly call Jesus “Lord, thou Son of David,” using an explicitly royal-messianic title that places Jesus within the covenant line established in 2 Samuel 7. The identification is direct and public, not an inferred typological resemblance.
