Matthew 16 — Overview
Matthew 16 is a turning point. Peter finally says plainly who Jesus is: the Christ, the Son of the living God. Jesus answers with rock, assembly, death's gates, and kingdom keys—but immediately explains that the Messiah must go to Jerusalem, suffer, die, and rise. Peter wants Messiah without the cross; Jesus calls that logic satanic and tells every disciple to follow the same cross-shaped road.
