Scripture also places this passage inside a wider canonical network. Deuteronomy commands Israel to leave forgotten sheaves and harvest remnants for the stranger, fatherless, and widow; Ruth enters the field as a foreign widow and lives inside that protection. Deuteronomy builds material provision for widows into Israel’s life; 1 Timothy likewise makes provision for widows a concrete community responsibility. Deuteronomy forbids oppressing poor hired workers and warns that their cry will reach the LORD; James says the workers’ cries enter the Lord’s ears.

The key reading question is therefore not simply, “What rule or event appears here?” but, “What does this movement teach Israel about the LORD, covenant loyalty, life in the land, and the consequences of trusting or resisting His word?”
