Psalms 118:6
Psalm 118 begins with congregational thanksgiving and testimony that refuge in the LORD is better than confidence in humans or princes. Hebrews 13:6 directly quotes Psalm 118:6 to encourage fearless trust in God. The NT reuse preserves the verse’s God-centered confidence rather than turning it into a prediction.
Scripture repeatedly contrasts fear of human opposition with trust in the Creator. Isaiah 51 is especially close in addressing those who know righteousness and telling them not to fear mortal humans.
Hebrews 13:6 takes Psalm 118:6’s confession—“The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me”—and makes it the believer’s present response to God’s promise never to leave or forsake his people. In Hebrews’ setting, the psalm’s confidence supports contentment and courage rather than trust in money or human security.
