Strengthen the Weak, Pursue Holiness, and Learn from Esau
Isaiah and Proverbs supply language for strengthening weak hands, feeble knees, and making straight paths. The commands are communal: pursue peace and holiness, watch that no one falls short of God’s grace, and prevent a poisonous “root of bitterness” from spreading through many. Esau becomes the warning example because he treated his birthright as expendable for one meal and later found the consequences irreversible despite tears. Hebrews is not saying repentance itself is useless; the Genesis scene concerns Esau’s inability to reverse the lost blessing once the decision and its consequences had taken effect.
