The LORD My Shepherd: Provision, Rest, and Restoration
Psalm 23 opens with the LORD himself as shepherd. The images of pasture, quiet waters, restored life, and right paths describe attentive divine care rather than a promise that faithful people never suffer. The shepherd owns, feeds, guides, and protects the flock.
Jesus later calls himself the good shepherd in John 10, making the shepherd theme an important canonical trajectory. The New Testament does not quote Psalm 23:1–3 as a formal fulfillment text, so the connection should be presented as a strong biblical shepherd pattern culminating in Christ, not as a direct prophecy.
