God’s Oath, Abraham’s Promise, and an Anchor beyond the Veil
God’s promise to Abraham becomes the basis for powerful assurance. Because God could swear by no greater, he swore by himself; Hebrews reads Genesis 22 as showing both promise and oath. These “two immutable things,” joined to God’s inability to lie, give strong encouragement to people who have fled for refuge to seize the hope set before them. That hope is an anchor entering behind the veil, where Jesus has entered as forerunner and high priest after Melchizedek’s order. Abrahamic promise, sanctuary access, hope, and priesthood converge in a single movement.
