No Good Fruit: Corruption Reaches the Household
Micah compares the moral state of the land to an orchard after harvest: he longs for ripe fruit and finds none. The image quickly becomes social. The faithful have disappeared, violence is organized, officials solicit bribes, powerful people coordinate their desires, and even the “best” seem like thorn hedges.
This fruitlessness belongs to a wider prophetic vocabulary in which God looks for the fruit of covenant faithfulness and finds injustice. That makes Micah 7:1 relevant to later biblical fruit imagery, including Jesus’ symbolic judgment of the fig tree, but the connection must be graded carefully. Matthew 21 does not quote Micah 7:1, so this study treats that proposal as a plausible prophetic pattern rather than a direct fulfillment.
