The Wicked Person’s Inheritance
Job 27:13–23 — “The Wicked Person’s Inheritance.”
WHAT IS HAPPENING Job refuses to confess crimes he did not commit and swears to hold fast his integrity. The latter part of the chapter also voices traditional judgment language about the wicked, creating an important literary tension with the friends’ earlier speeches.
THIS MOVEMENT The section’s own focus is “The Wicked Person’s Inheritance.” It begins, “This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.” and closes, “Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.”.
