1 Kings 18:44–45
In 1 Kings 18:41–46, the narrative focuses on the return of rain. This belongs to the Elijah cycle. Drought, provision, restored life, Carmel, rain, flight, Horeb, and prophetic succession reveal the LORD’s authority over life, weather, worship, kings, and prophets while Israel is being called away from Baal and back to covenant loyalty.
A cloud rising in the west could bring Mediterranean rain, while a south wind could bring hot dry air from the desert. Elijah’s rain cloud from the sea provides a biblical geographic parallel, but Jesus’ point is ordinary weather competence versus failure to interpret the present crisis.
