Jesus directly quotes Psalm 110:1—“The LORD said unto my Lord”—to challenge a merely genealogical view of the Messiah. The question does not deny Davidic descent; it forces the hearers to account for the Messiah’s exalted lordship beyond ordinary dynastic categories.

Luke places the poor widow’s offering immediately after Jesus condemns scribes who devour widows’ houses, creating a strong literary linkage between exploitative leadership and the vulnerable widow at the treasury.

Jesus asks how the Christ can be called David’s son and quotes Psalm 110 concerning David’s Lord, showing that Davidic sonship is an explicit messianic expectation but does not exhaust the Messiah’s identity. The scene assumes the royal line while pressing beyond ordinary descent.
