The Mission Retold — The Servant Interprets the Journey as the LORD’s Leading
A large portion of Genesis 24 deliberately retells what the reader has just witnessed. The servant recounts Abraham's commission, his own prayer at the well, Rebekah's response, and the discovery of her family identity. The repetition is not wasted space. It allows the servant to interpret the events for Rebekah's household: the LORD has prospered the mission and led him to Abraham's relatives.
The retelling preserves the same basic event while adjusting wording, emphasis, and the apparent sequence of a few details. That is important for careful Bible reading: biblical narrative can recount the same event selectively without requiring every retelling to be verbally identical. The theological emphasis remains consistent—God's providence is guiding the continuation of the promised line.
