Sinners at the Table, the Bridegroom, and New Wine
Jesus calls Levi from the tax booth, then eats at a feast crowded with tax collectors and others labeled sinners. When challenged, Jesus describes himself as a physician for the sick and says he has come to call sinners to repentance. The controversy then shifts to fasting, where Jesus identifies himself as the bridegroom.
Where this fits in the story: meals in Luke are never merely meals. They reveal who is welcomed, who grumbles, who understands grace, and what kind of community the kingdom creates. The bridegroom image also places Jesus inside a rich biblical covenant-marriage world.
